(LOS ANGELES) -- Los Angeles Police Department homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old man in Panorama City this weekend.

Gunfire was reported on Parthenia Street, east of Cedros Avenue, at 10:35 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a male victim bleeding badly. He died on the way to the hospital. His name will be released pending notification of kin.

Police have not determined a motive for the shooting and are asking the public for help in solving the murder.

“Detectives suspect the 911 callers might have seen more than they reported, and would like them to come forward with any information," Capt. Todd Chamberlain, commanding officer of LAPD Mission Area Police Station, said in a news release.

This is the first homicide in Panorama City this year, according to police.

Anyone with information on this crime is urged to call Detective Efren Gutierrez, Mission Homicide Unit, at (818) 838-9948.  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).

Tipsters may also contact Crime Stoppers by texting the phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a cell phone.  All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.” Tipsters may also go to LAPDOnline.org, click on "webtips" and follow the prompts.
